We Can't Do it Alone: Ways To Help Theater BY The Blind

When you make a donation to Theater Breaking Through Barriers, you can actually see the impact of your generosity. In fact, less than 30% of our annual income is a result of ticket sales. The remaining amount comes from government programs, private foundations and individual donors like you.

Last year we started work under a great two-year $65,000 audience development matching grant from Theatre Communications Group to help us expand our mission and go from one to two Off-Broadway shows a year, gradually increasing the runs from four to six weeks. The grant was matched by the New York Community Trust, the Robert Sterling Clark Foundation, and the Emma A. Sheafer Charitable Trust. Your donation can help to match TCG's challenge.

29 years after inception, Theatre Breaking Through Barriers is the only Off-Broadway company dedicated to advancing theater artists with disabilities and showing how free, vibrant and exuberant they can be. Over the last several years, the company has experienced phenomanal growth. In 2004 we began producing under Actor's Equity's Letter Of Agreement Contract. This means longer runs and the opportunity to attract even more visibility for our mission. It also means increased costs. A longer run means a higher price for theatre rental, which has gone up almost 80% in the last two years. It also means that we must now pay our actors a weekly salary.

Please consider becoming a part of Theater Breaking Through Barriers and helping us reach the next level. Your generous gift is tax deductible and will be appreciated by our many artists with and without disabilities.
